With the new academic year approaching fast, we wanted to reflect on the success stories of our current students, and how the University Campus of Esports has supported them on this journey.
This is a short article giving some insight into what it is like to study at the University Campus of Esports through the lens of International Esports Business & Digital Media student Ethan Reilly, highlighting many of his experiences in his course and his outlook on life as a student.
Experiences on My Course:

One of the first things that I noticed throughout my first year at the University Campus of Esports is how good the International Esports Business and Digital Media course has been for my personal and professional development.
Firstly, the most influential assignment I underwent was my broadcast assignment, where we conducted a 1-hour long livestream where me and my classmates all had different roles in the broadcast. This bonded us as a unit and developed all of our skills in how broadcast team’s work. I was a caster, and not only did my confidence and speaking skills improve but I also learnt how to work in a team much better.
This leads on to another part of my course which has been team building and developing chemistry across the class. This is so influential in your enjoyment of the course because not only do you work better as a unit, but you also enjoy coming in more for each lecture when you are with people you have good chemistry with.
Freedom with Assignments:

Next, we have the level of freedom across our assignments. This is so important with the creative course options that the University Campus of Esports provides. It is important to have the freedom to let your creativity flourish and that is exactly what the assignments allow.
For most assignments, you have the base line assignment details from a very early point, letting you understand what topics and areas that you need to cover. However, this is good as most of the time you have the choice of what areas you would like to cover in these topics.
Especially for me, this has given me so much room to be as creative as I want with my assignments, and perform the best that I can, leading me to results I have been very happy with across the whole of my first year. The lecturers are also incredible at bringing this level of creativity out as they really encourage all students to aim their focus on topics that they are interested in. This not only makes the assignments much more enjoyable, but also ensures that you do as well as possible on each assignment.
Mental Health Support:

One of the most important features the institution has offered me has been the mental health support. I had a very difficult period at the start of 2024 and the staff were incredible with me. I dealt with two of the lecturers regarding my mental health on multiple occasions, and they got me back up and running better than I ever thought I would be.
Mental health support is available to all students as each student will have a mentor or course leader which will have regular one-to-one check ups to make sure that you are doing well. If you have any worries at all, including academic or personal concerns, your course lead will be the person to talk to. However, all staff are very caring and welcoming so if you would prefer to talk to another member of the team that can usually be arranged.
Friends and Community:

The University Campus of Esports is an amazing place to be in terms of making friends and getting involved with the community at the institution. I was someone that was not confident at all coming to the University Campus of Esports and was incredibly nervous to even talk to anyone – yet I have met the best friends I have ever had while being here. It is a very nerve-wracking experience but once you have found your people then it makes everything much easier.
It is very easy to find people with similar interests as you, because the majority of people that come to study here all came for very similar reasons. This, alongside the fact that there are always people around on campus makes it very easy to meet new people and even easier to find people with interests just like yours.
Extracurricular Activities:

Finally, there are many extracurricular activities for students to involve themselves in. Personally, I have been involved in quite a lot, including helping with the broadcast team through observing and casting, and playing on multiple of the London Legion teams. As well as this, I am currently working to set up a new society which will hopefully be ready for September. There are plenty of extracurricular activities to get involved with at the University Campus of Esports, and these are just a few of the many things that you can take part in.
This is just a glimpse into a few of the many things that you will experience studying at the University Campus of Esports. If you are joining us in September, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you enjoy your time here.
