With the new academic year approaching fast, we wanted to reflect on the success stories of our current students, and how the University Campus of Esports has supported them on this journey.

International Esports Business & Digital Media student, Molly Sharp, discusses some of the amazing experiences she has had at the University Campus of Esports over the last two years.

Choosing the right university for you can be one of the toughest challenges you will face in life, and there is an underlying uncertainty that you are heading into the unknown.

On my first day at the University Campus of Esports I experienced anxiety like no other about what life would be like from here on out; two years down the line I can confidently say it was the one of the best decisions I have ever made.

As my third and final year approaches, my course, International Esports Business and Digital Media, has taught me more about the industry than I could have ever hoped. From marketing strategies and digital analytics, to hands-on broadcasting and content creation, the courses’ wide variety of units all prepare you for real life industry situations and endeavours.

There have been multiple situations in which content from my course has helped me excel when partaking in extra curricular opportunities, and industry work.

During my first academic year, I discovered my passion for events photography, and teamed up with the institutions’ Social Media & Content Manager to work industry events, and grow my creative portfolio. Some of the events I had the opportunity to attend included the G2 x Jägermeister partnership launch party, and the Apex Legends Global Series Playoffs, in which I was invited backstage by JLINGZ Esports.

This was one of the most surreal opportunities I have had to date, to not only work on such a large scale event, but to also have the pleasure of meeting and interacting with professional players is an incomparable experience. After making a magnitude of valuable industry connections within the event, it was overwhelmingly gratifying to see my work being shared all over social media, by teams and players alike.

My passion for the industry and creative media only grew from these opportunities, and I began to involve myself in more projects with the University Campus of Esports -, photographing multiple student-led events and tournaments.

During my second academic year, I was personally asked by a peer to attend, photograph and produce a press release for London Lock In, a completely organic student-led event. Despite having little to no experience with journalism, I took on the challenge as it has always been a sector I have taken great interest in.

Within a week of the event, my work had been published on Esports News UK, and became my first ever published article. I later had the pleasure of volunteering at the Lock In event, which was excellently produced and a wonder to attend, and continued to grow my creative portfolio with images I had captured throughout the night.

I never imagined I would be able to continue to pursue photography and journalism alongside my degree, and was ready to sacrifice that for the benefit of my future.

However, with just the sheer amount of opportunities I have been presented with, as well as the amount of support and encouragement I have received, my love for my hobbies has never been more alive at the University Campus of Esports.

Stepping into a new journey can be unnerving, but I’ve never once doubted the support I would receive in every creative, academic, and business endeavour I chose to indulge in, from both staff and students alike.

From these opportunities my passion for both photography and journalism grew tremendously, and I can only hope I have the pleasure of pursuing a career in the work I have grown to love.
