From the 13th – 16th July 2023, the third-annual Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) LAN is taking place live from the Copper Box Arena, London – and students from the University Campus of Esports have been given the opportunity to get industry experience.
Molly Sharp, Aaron Bakhshi, and Andreas Georgiou have all been invited to the event to work in a range of roles to gain first-hand industry experience.
Aaron, current President of the Student Council, is studying Esports Coaching and Management at the university – but also works with Jlingz Esports as their Team Manager on top of his studies. This means that he has a very important role at events like ALGS to work with the players to ensure they are ready for competition, and co-ordinate schedules.
Alongside Aaron, Andreas, who is studying International Esports Business and Digital Marketing, is also involved with Jlingz Esports, and is working with the team at events during his studies. Andreas is the current Vice President of the Student Council and has a great dynamic with Aaron both in and out of the university; ensuring they can grab any experiences that come their way.
Both students are set to attend ALGS all weekend, supporting the Jlingz players in their matches as they try to qualify for the next stage of competition.
On top of this, Molly, who is studying International Esports Business and Digital Media, has been invited as part of the Press team to get a taste for live event coverage. In this, she has been doing photography, videography, and editing live from the arena to gather experience in this area.
This is something that Molly would like to go on to do as a career, and this time working in a professional environment will bring her one step closer to being ‘world-ready’.
Opportunities and experiences like this are key elements within the Tri-Curriculum to ensure that students have a wide range of professional skills ahead of entering full-time careers. We are hopeful that we can bring many more experiences like this to students in the coming academic year and beyond.
