On Saturday 15th July, four students from the University Campus of Esports joined Promod Esports to produce the Rome Major of the FormulaE Accelerate Championship, with the broadcast live from the university campus.
The broadcast, that kicked off at 11:00am BST on the day, was an overall success, and saw some of the best Sim Racing talent come together to compete through a series of races on the stream.
Students were working in roles such as Graphics Operator, Sound Technician, and Assistant Broadcast Technician – working with industry professionals to get a taster for live esports events.
This is the second time that Promod Esports has invited students to work with them to produce the Accelerate Championship – with this opportunity becoming a paid opportunity for the students involved.
Karl Vanlint, Founder at Storm Broadcast, worked closely with the students throughout the event, and ensured that they were able to complete their roles to professional standards.
He said: “There is a huge amount of enthusiasm for esports broadcast at the University Campus of Esports, and it was great to see that channeled into this live event! Promod is very experienced in what they do, and I am grateful to them for giving the students a chance to be part of it. The FormulaE brand is a good one to have on the CV.”

On top of providing valuable work experience, opportunities like this help to develop the professionalism of the students – exposing them to real-world situations and giving them the skills to be prepared in these environments.
